This club has been formed by a group of enthusiastic and dedicated owners and breeders of the Great Swiss Mountain Dog. All pet/companion puppies are sold with an AKC limited registration, and the requirement that the puppy be spayed or neutered at an appropriate age. Welcome to the Great Swiss Mountain Dog Club. This helps to ensure that each puppy is placed in an appropriate and loving home, whether the puppy is placed as a family pet or as a show prospect or a working dog. Puppies are evaluated at 8 weeks by other experienced breeders/mentors for structural soundness as well as temperament tested. The largest and oldest of the four Sennenhund Breeds, which include the Bernese Mountain Dog, Appenzell Cattle Dog and the Entlebuch Cattle Dog. We put the utmost importance ensuring that each puppy from Dark Moon is socialized before entering their new home. The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog was developed in the Alps of Switzerland, descending from the Roman Mastiffs, brought to the area more than 2000 years ago. Our Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs have been full health tested for Hips, Elbows, Heart/Cardiac and Eyes, and certified through OFA. Our Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs have achieved their AKC Championship in conformation and we also feel it is extremely important for our dogs to achieve working titles as well, either through AKC or GSMDCA. The name Sennenhund refers to people called Senn or Senner, dairymen and herders in the Swiss Alps. Whether it’s in the show ring or in a wonderful companion home, our number one priority is temperament. The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog (German: Grosser Schweizer Sennenhund or French: Grand Bouvier Suisse) is a dog breed which was developed in the Swiss Alps. We breed for temperament, soundness and health as well as adherence to the breed standard. Our mission at Dark Moon Swissys is to produce the best possible quality puppies we can and overall a versatile Greater Swiss Mountain Dog.
